Black Vacuum/White Planetside

0201 - Spice Shenanigans.

This is the first adventure of the new campaign.

The adventure started off with me describing Professor Enigmatic’s ship. It looks like the ship from Prometheus. Ben asked if the university provided any techs or assistants; they did, 2 student research assistants (guy and girl) and a mechanic.

The players (Jeff hadn’t got there yet) discussed how they knew each other and how they got to be on Enigmatic’s ship.

After figuring that out, they decided to look for the Spice Melange. I decided to price it as a Luxury good and give them a price for small quantities of the stuff. I used the Maze Rats Ethereal Forms table to describe the drug’s effects. In some cases, a bad trip resulted and I used the Mutations list to describe the nightmare that the character was suffering. The characters decided to buy a whole ton and a half of the stuff to try to sell on the new worlds they discovered (great stuff!!).

From there, I describe Professor Enigmatic’s overall mission of exploring the Vertiti subsector, but first they need to go to the ice moon of the gas giant in the Tellus system and see what happened to some scientists there.

The scientists were researching the strange anomalies on the moon.

The players made it safely from Brietz to the moon and landed at the scientists’ base camp. Throughout all this there was drug use and lustful behavior towards the females on the ship and general horrible treatment toward the male research assistant.

On the surface at the base camp, the guy assistant was exploring the base camp under the direction of professor enigmatic. It was then that Jeff’s character was found as a stowaway in one of the crates of spice. While Jeff’s character was trying to warn the male assistant about how crazy the other characters were, Neal’s character ran up and bashed the assistant in the head, nearly killing him. The assistant is currently in the medical bay on the ship dying.

This freaked out the two women who tried holing up in the mechanic’s room. When their door was forced open, the mechanic shot at Enigmatic but missed. She was then shot by Dave’s character, but not harmed greatly. The mechanic is now locked up in a stateroom. The girl assistant is being drugged out of her mind in an other stateroom to keep her calm.

The characters decide to still continue the mission though, and follow the leads from the base camp to where they think the scientists went. When they get to the area, they notice that is like a communications and sensors blank spot, with none of that equipment working.

They find the scientists’ wrecked research vessel, and see a painted sign towards the rocky hills. They don’t do any more searching and head up there. They then see a 4-eyed monkey and try to scare him off with a laser blast from the ship’s weapons.

They find the path up through the rocky crag to the cave where the scientists are hiding. Jeff’s character tries to distract the ice apes by throwing some spice at them; they throw a rock at his head in return. Jeff’s character and Neal’s character run up to the cave and meet the surviving scientists. Ben’s character, Enigmatic, is wheelchair ridden and so stays behind in his ship. By this time, David had left; so we don’t know what happened to his character.

Next time, re do introductions and see how they handle all the scientists and the ice apes.

0200 - Character Generation for New Crew

This was the character generation for the new campaign set in the Sands Sector.

All the characters meet up on Brietz, seat of the leadership for the three-world hegemony called the Brietz Commonwealth.

Ben F. rolled up a retired research professor who was granted the use of a research vessel. It turns out, his retirement is actually a research journey into the unknown Vertiti subsector which borders on the Stingray subsector. The vessel he’s been granted is 200 tons, but it’s TL 12 instead of TL 9 with many of the bells and whistles. Before starting out on this journey of discovery, his character will need a crew, and he’s been asked to check out some missing scientists on the ice moon of the Tellus system gas giant. In addition to the crew that Ben’s character needs to pull together, the university provided some grad-student research assistants as well as a mechanic.

Neal B. rolled up an ex-pirate/ex-scout who finagled a scout ship. I’m pretty sure this vessel was off the books because he was a pirate for so long after leaving the scouts. Maybe, it will be conveniently remembered by the Scout services at a most inopportune time.

David H. rolled up a merc that had actually tried several different careers. David’s character is an old friend of Ben’s character, and David’s character had a run at some point in his past with Neal’s character; so, they all loosely know each other, which is how they got roles on Ben’s science vessel.

Jeff T. rolled up a young baron who tried his hand at nobility for one term, and attained the rank of knight, but left to train his psychic potential. His secret was discovered by his family; so, he had to leave the academy before his training was done. Jeff’s character is a stow away on the science vessel.

0103 - Looking for Trouble

The party splits up to accomplish various information gathering tasks.

Rolando scours the bars and flop houses of the docks for snatch and snatches of information. He succeeds in getting the contact number for Mazus and his goons here in Pantenga on Bron.

Zap cases the starport (Farrington Yacht Club) where Mazus Black landed his ship . Zap notes the increase security in general and about the starport from the day’s earlier gun play.

Zyg continues his near god-like hacking of the net, securing information, passcodes, and planting useful false information in the starport’s system.

Miranda makes everyone feel awkward when she tries to dance with the boys.

Eventually, everyone comes back together and a plan is hatched to steal Mazus’ ship.

0102 - Cornelius' Pad

The party is all holed up in the (for now) safe home of Zap. The group learns each others’ names and become acquainted with their stories.

The group then makes plans on how to find out more information on Mazus Black.

0101 - Troubles on Bron

This was the first real session of the forum game “Space Trials and Tribulations”.

In this session we start with Zygmunt (Zyg) Granat walking around Pantenga on Bron when he spies trouble brewing down below in a large market area as a noble and some of his goons are harassing the people in the market place.

Trouble really begins when an offended Rolando Maximillion kicks things up a notch. A fight breaks out between the noble and his goons and Rolando and another woman, Miranda Hargrove. It is when the noble turns to face the woman that Zyg realizes the noble is none other Mazus Black, a high-up scientist from Malum. Zyg is an escaped expirement from Malum and is being hunted by Mazus, unbeknownst to him.

The fight ends with all the bad guys down or seriously injured and Rolando KO. Miranda leads Zyg (carrying thte KO Rolando) back to a safe place she knows, the home of Cornelius (Zap) Jaxon.
